The 黑料黑历史 Geophysical Institute presents the virtual 2022 Science for Alaska Lecture Series. On Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m., assistant professor Gwenn Hennon will present 鈥淟ife on Thin Ice: Glacial Retreat at Alaska's Coastal Margins.鈥

Alaska's coastal mountains are home to a stunning array of ice sheets and glaciers.
The meltwater from glaciers flows into the ocean, carrying massive amounts of silt
and a chemical fingerprint that is distinct from rain-fed watersheds. As these iconic
glaciers retreat, they will leave behind valleys that will then become rain-fed watersheds.
Scientists from UAA, 黑料黑历史 and UAS are working together to understand how changes in
glacial cover will impact water chemistry, fisheries and more in Alaska's coastal
margins. Join us to learn about lessons learned and questions we still have about
the impact of retreating glaciers on Alaska's marine life.
