One student from Alaska and one from Switzerland have been selected as this year's
recipients of a Geophysical Institute Schaible Fellowship. Amy Jenson of Alaska and Annegret Pohle of Switzerland are this year鈥檚 recipients
of two-year fellowships.
Beginning Aug. 12, Blackboard users will see an updated and modernized navigation
tool when logging into UA Blackboard. With the addition of Ultra Base Navigation,
expect a streamlined nav experience, creating easier access to the learning tool.
There is immense interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)
technologies, many of which are already integrated into healthcare systems. Scholars
and journalists have highlighted the risks and negative impact of bias (i.e., inequalities
in AI impact relating to social disadvantages) to women, racialized and under-represented

The International Arctic Research Center is showing its stripes with a bold 40-foot-long
hallway installation. The myriad of red and blue vertical bands makes a rainbow-like
bar code representing Arctic temperatures from 1900 to 2021. The trend in the Arctic
is remarkable. Every year since 1995 shows red, meaning that annual temperatures have
been above average for nearly three decades.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is offering a yearlong
program to help people at risk of developing diabetes lose weight and improve their
health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention developed the program.

A University of Alaska Fairbanks master's degree candidate's work collects reports
of warming temperatures, changing wind patterns, eroding coastlines and shifting sea
ice across Arctic Alaska.
Minnie Naylor has been appointed to serve as the interim director of the University
of Alaska Fairbanks Chukchi Campus in Kotzebue. Naylor is originally from Kotzebue
and has family from Noatak and Shishmaref. She holds master鈥檚 and bachelor鈥檚 degrees
in rural development from 黑料黑历史. Naylor is joining Chukchi Campus from 黑料黑历史鈥檚 Rural Student
Services, where she previously served as an academic advisor.
