Today I appointed Vice Chancellor Keith Champagne to serve as athletics director for 黑料黑历史. Champagne will take over for Sterling Steward, who stepped down from his position earlier today. Dr. Champagne will continue in his role as vice chancellor for student affairs, a role that is consistent with his new duties leading the Alaska Nanooks athletics program.

This change is more than one of titles. It marks a move to further integrate athletics into the university community and a renewed focus on fundraising, marketing and community engagement.

In addition to Vice Chancellor Champagne鈥檚 experience in student affairs, he has a solid background in athletics. His doctoral work focused on intercollegiate athletics leadership and sports management, and he is a graduate of the prestigious Sports Management Institute. Prior to joining the leadership team at 黑料黑历史, he served as chief diversity officer for intercollegiate athletics at Central Washington University.
